The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, by Robert Louis Stevenson, is a mystery tale about the inexorable conflict between good and evil explored through the mysterious relationship between a respectable and affable doctor and his brutal associate. Set in the grimy streets of Victorian London, this tale of murder, split personality and obscure science, with its chilling final revelation, became an instant horror classic when it was first published in 1886, and has enthralled and terrified generations of readers ever since. Dr Jekyll is a kind, well-respected and intelligent scientist who meddles with the darker side of science, as he wants to bring out his `second` nature. He does this through transforming himself into Mr. Hyde - his evil alter ego who doesn`t repent or accept responsibility for his evil crimes and ways.
